Gordon Johnson , the Horse Guard commander. "We had more riders this year than we did last year."</p><p><strong><a href="http://www.newomegawatches.com">omega watches</a></strong> Beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing into early afternoon, the event was the last chance for riders to earn points to qualify for the Connecticut Hunter Jumper Association and Connecticut Horse Shows Association finals that will be held in Westport next month.</p><p>"We've had this every year since 1999, and riders from all over come to compete," said Lt. Ken Fay , spokesman for the Horse Guard.</p><p>Competitors occupied two rings at Wildlife Road facility. In one, riders were judged on equitation, which involves their control of the horse, use of riding aids, proper attire and other style factors. Jumping competition was held in the other ring.</p><p>Stephanie Bahre, riding Hidells Blue Eagle, took home Sunday's top prize, the Governor's Cup, Fay said.</p><p>In addition to giving spectators a chance to see the riders and their animals perform, the show raises money to help support the Horse Guard, which has been stationed in Newtown since 1988.</p><p>More than 20 members of the ceremonial cavalry unit worked throughout the day to make the event go off smoothly, Johnson said.
